Local Characteristics

The town of Higashi-Asahikawa is located in the middle of Hokkaido, a little outside of Asahikawa. Higashi-Asahikawa Town, home to Japan’s famous Asahiyama Zoo, ski resorts, and fashionable cafes and stores, is located within a 10-minute drive from the house. Despite being within the city, the tranquil scenery of vast nature and rice paddies will soothe the hearts of all who see it.

Concept

We live with about 40 sheep and share mates in a vast 4 hectare grassland. We are creating a place where you can experience the richness of nature and sheep by growing vegetables and taking care of the sheep with your share mates. As a share house, we accept people from all walks of life, both short term and long term, so it’s also a great place to meet people. We also provide opportunities for the local community to use the share house by holding events such as sheep feeding and cooking classes.

I love traveling and meeting people, so I traveled around Japan for about 8 months to see different ways of life. At that time, I met a shepherd in Hokkaido, and by chance, I decided to become a shepherd.

This is a place where a variety of people come to stay, regardless of staying short or long term, so you may meet people you would not normally meet, such as travelers! Although the number of share mates changes depending on the time of year, we have had people from a variety of industries, such as zookeepers and IT teleworkers, stay with us.

3You can experience like this!

You can feed the sheep and pet them, and around June, if the timing is right, you can even go sheep trimming! Also, from spring to fall, you can experience field work such as weeding and harvesting vegetables as we also have a self-sufficient farm. In summer, you can enjoy BBQ outside, and in winter, you can enjoy winter sports at the ski resort.
