Local Characteristics

Bizen City is a town located on the edge of Okayama Prefecture. Although unassuming, the city is actually famous for three Japanese heritage sites: Kanya Gakko (Kanya School), Bizen Pottery, and Kitamaebune (Kitamae Ship). And the Hinio area, facing the Seto Inland Sea, is famous for oyster farming. Oyster oko, a B-class gourmet dish, is also famous. There are many islands, and the view from the bridges over them is also excellent.

We cherish each and every encounter with people. Just as we have met many people in our travels, we want our children to meet many people as well. We moved to the countryside to live a more down-to-earth life, and we try not to forget to have fun while living in the countryside.

We are a family of five: a former round-the-world backpacker couple and three energetic children. (One more child will be added in February 2024.) The wife acts immediately when the ideas come up with her mind, and the husband is cautious. Kids are 7, 5, and 3 years old and love to play outside.

Wife is a freelance occupational therapist and community development cooperator with the community as her field. We do various activities. Husband is a speech therapist. We run a children's cafeteria and a children's place at a community café in our neighborhood, so we get to play with a lot of rural children. There are people from various fields of work in the Regional Development Cooperation Volunteers, so we are connected.

We have a community café in the neighborhood, a children's place, a children's cafeteria, and a smartphone class for the elderly. We welcome anyone who is interested in our activities. We are also involved in various activities such as food bank activities, opening a stall at a marché event, and organizing an event to “play in the rice paddies”. We would like to renovate the main building and create a place for mothers, a co-working space, and a guesthouse.

Recommendations

We live in a place full of nature, so it is a great fit for those with children. All of my children like to play with the guests and they are friendly, so adults and children alike get along easily. We also have a pesticide-free vegetable garden next to our house. It is rather large because we are in the countryside. You can make or harvest whatever you like. We are both therapists in the field of children, so we love children. We have only been in the countryside for 2 years, but my wife is involved in a wide range of activities, so she has connections with many different people and can connect you with them. We will be even busier with more children in February 2024, so if you love children, you are welcome to join us.

The most nearest station is Sougo, Akaho-line and it takes 8-min on foot. Conveniencestore in 8-min, Arcade in 10-min. It took 20-min to the bid Mall. We can see the sea in 20-min walk, and also abale to hike in the mountain behind the house.

Accommodation is primarily in a separate building, with access to the bathroom and shower in our house. The separate building has 3 rooms.

Extra Charge

Ages 0-2 are free, preschoolers are half price. Heating fee applies from December to February, and cooling fee applies from July to August (270 yen/night).
