Local Characteristics

It is located 20 minutes from the center of Kobe by train or bus and access is excellent. There is a field in front of the house where you can do farming. I think here is the place where you can experience both the city and the countryside with easy access.

Concept

We open part of our residence to the public in the form of “livelihood openings” our hope is that many people will come and experience diverse ways of thinking and living. The field in front of the house is rented out to the local community, and events are held on weekends to create opportunities for people to gather. In our daily life, we try to live carefully, taking food and the environment into consideration.

3 Key Points

1Host’s introduction

The couple lived in Fiji for two years as JICA volunteers. The husband used to a teacher who values human connections, the wife, who runs an ethical-themed online community, and the daughter was born in July 2019. We also have two cats.

2You can interact with people like this!

Here is the place where you can freely connect with interesting people such as painters who give painting classes, Sri Lankan curry chefs, guesthouse owners, sushi chefs, people who do string hanging mandalas, yoga teachers, aromatherapists, estheticians, fortune tellers, and local people who rent the shared field in front of the building.

3You can experience like this!

We regularly hold events such as international exchange events, painting classes, and marche to create opportunities to naturally interact with people in the community. If you put your interests out there, you will be able to connect with interesting people and expand your circle of connections. I am a host who is good at connecting people with each other, so please feel free to contact me.

Recommendations

We want people who are interested in "opening a home," who want to raise children together, who want to plan something in a rural village, or who want to try something new on their own! Since it is close to the city, we also recommend it to those who are anxious about going to the countryside at the git-go, but would to try a bit of rural life

SUPER effective 1 week

I work as an office worker by day, but I took a week's holiday to do a homestay here.
I went with the hope of finding a hint of what happiness is like for me.
Through communication with people I wouldn't normally meet, such as the neighbouring farmers I met and the dyeing experience, things that had been chaotic for me became much clearer!
The hosts were also wonderful people who were cheerful and honestly recognised the individuality of others, and thanks to them my self-esteem has also increased a lot!
I will definitely return in the near future!

It was only a month, but I met a lot of people, experienced a lot and got a lot of inspiration!
Before I went, I had no idea what "SUMIBILAKI" was like, but I realised that it is a unique space where wonderful people gather naturally and new ideas and ways of thinking are born.
The encounters with my host family and the warm local people, who value people-to-people links and communication, have become a treaseur for the rest of my life!
Thank you so much.
I will definitely come back to see you again!

The two weeks I spent in the homestay really flew by and I had a lot of fun! I gained so many valuable experiences and the loose and warm atmosphere with so many people made me feel at home. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me learn so much in the short time I was there!
Thank you so much.
I look forward to seeing you again!

I have been here for a week during my company's paid holiday period.
It was not a trip, but a life close to my normal life, and I was curious to try things I don't usually do, and this was the perfect place for me.
I met new people every day, talked with my hosts while doing DIY at home, went out with friends I had become friends with over here...
Anyway, I really enjoyed the environment where I could freely challenge myself with the spirit of trying everything!
I'm glad to have found a place where people who have been to that place once can wander back and naturally gather
and connect with each other!
Even when I go back to my daily life, I will try my best to remember this experience from time to time and look forward to the day when I can go back again!
Thank you so much.

It was very comfortable to spend time with residents from different backgrounds like a family.
I was happy to eat dinner with about 10 people around one table, BBQ in the garden, take a walk while listening to the sound of insects, and all these experiences we could not have had if we lived in the city.
I felt that this is a good place for those who want to enjoy both living in nature and sightseeing, as it has good access to Sannomiya and sightseeing can also be enjoyed!
I am planning to visit again ^^^.

Relaxing and connecting with people.

I stayed for a week with my two children (3 years old).
I was very apprehensive about my plans and the environment before I went, but my host family, the other people staying and everyone visiting were all like 'everything is welcome!!!' so that's why I really enjoyed my stay.
They also took us to farmers they knew and gave us farming experiences, we painted a chicken coop where they had recently started raising chickens, and we went to collect insects, which is something you can't usually do in the city. My children were very happy to have these experiences.
I felt that my hosts value the connections they make with people and that this is what brings people to them.
I would like to go back again.

homestay in KELEKELE

My son and I stayed with a homestay in KELEKELE for six days and five nights.
I was also looking forward to hearing about the experiences of two people who had spent time in Fiji as Cooperation Volunteers.
I actually met them and heard directly from them about their current activities and future prospects, I was quite influenced by them.
I was also inspired by my interactions with the long-term residents there.
I enjoyed the daily conversations, immersed myself in the work and had a very productive time.
It is a place where you feel like you are shaping your own life. I feel like I have been exposed to a multicultural environment while I am in Japan.

I will go back to visit again!

I stayed at Kerekere for a week.
Before I went, I was worried that I wouldn't get on with my hosts, but I enjoyed talking to everyone from day one.
I am not good at challenging already established relationships, but I had no difficulties with communication because my hosts were very kind. This is also because of the variety of people who came to the house due to their new idea of sharing with the public called 'SUMI HILAKI'.
Also, outside the house, I could talk with people with a lot of experience through DIY and farming experiences. It was a valuable experience to hear stories from senior people, such as why they decided to start farming and why they decided to open a shop.
I will go back to visit again!
Thank you very much.
