(8件)Local Characteristics
Less than an hour away from Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, is a rural town with a special topography of mountains right on the sea. Famous for having the best sunset in Japan, “Shimonada Station,” an unmanned station floating on the sea, attracts many tourists. With a population of about 3,000, this peaceful, beautiful, and lovely town is home to many fishermen and citrus farmers, as well as many stores that are a fusion of immigrants and long-established businesses.
Concept
A shop in a good location in front of the station, started by my great-grandparents over 65 years ago. We operate a Showa-era retro coffee shop (coffee shop & guest house) where you can stay overnight, with the hope of making the shop, which my grandparents have protected ever since, a place where smiling faces can gather, even in these times when the population is disappearing. We hope that you can use one bed in the dormitory like a shared house and enjoy interacting with grandparents, local people, and guests who come to visit. The sunsets are very beautiful and you can enjoy the blue sea and bright red sunsets every day from the large windows of the cafe and the rooftop.
3 Key Points
1Host’s introduction
Although my parents are from Ehime, I grew up in Yokohama because my father was tend to do business trips a lot. I came to Futami-cho every year when I went back to my hometown, and the beautiful scenery and small-town community made me feel comfortable. I also have fond memories of helping my grandparents with their store and being praised for it. I revived a coffee shop that had been semi-closed, and while operating it only on Saturdays and Sundays, I also established a regional trading company business as a Regional Development Cooperation Volunteer, planning, manufacturing, and selling products utilizing the primary products of Futami. Based on my own experience of often using guesthouses when traveling alone, I also opened a guesthouse in the spring of 2022, hoping to create a place where people can enjoy the chance encounter between people. Hosts also live together on another floor.
2You can interact with people like this!
Since it is a guesthouse, we can not only interact with guests who visit daily from all over Japan, but also take you to various places in town if you wish, including the owner's grandparents, local grandparents who come to shop at the store run by the grandparents on the first floor, neighborhood elementary school students who come to play when in the mood, people running local businesses, farmers, fishermen, and other local residents!
3You can experience like this!
You can join me to go to work in and out of the community and try to build the village. You can do a part-time in the Popye where the coffee shop I’m running is only on Saturday and Sunday. You can also join the events if you like to cook. You can have a beer garden or BBQ on the rooftop overlooking the ocean or on the sandy beach in front of you! Futami also offers a variety of hands-on activities, so if you wish, you can do anything from paragliding and pottery making to enzyme baths and working as a part-time mandarin orange farmer! You might even get to process and eat fish given to you by a handsome fisherman!

Recommendations
I believe the days are exciting for students interested in town planning and young people with curiosity and enthusiasm. I also recommend a workcation with a view of the sea, as long as the work can be done with only PC, as it is refreshing. I have friends in their early 20s who are tired from work and come here to do nothing for a little healing time, and they have been here many times.
